Eastern Region Autumn Show- 10th October
The finale of the Eastern region showing calendar is the ever popular Autumn show. This was a busy day of showing for many exhibitors as they had entered in both our own Jacob show and the main Exhibition. In the Hill & Heath section of the main event, 4 out of six class winners forward for the championship were Jacobs (the commentator was very complementary about how far the Jacob breed had come) with the Hill & heath championship finally awarded to Alan & June Smith’s shearling ram. In our own Jacob show, Richard Chapman did an excellent job of judging a large entry. Tori & Ben

Eastern Region Open day 5th September 2010
Held at;
Kilby Grange Farm, Fleckney Road, Kilby, Wigston, Leicester. LE18 3TB.
11am to 4pm on Sunday 5th September 2010
The Eastern region Open day was held at Kilby Grange Farm on the 5th September. This was a successful day with a sheepdog demonstration by international and national triallist Nij Vyas. The “spirited” Jacob cross ewes were worked beautifully by two of Nij’s sheepdogs whilst he explained how he trained his dogs, and the importance of a good dog. Local butcher, Marcus Stevens of Ullesthorpe, was on hand to assess a pen of Jacob fat lambs and demonstrate what to look out for selecting lambs for the market or fatstock shows.

Eastern Region Show and Sale- 10th & 11th September.
Melton show & sale had one of the highest entries of Jacobs forward this year. It was great to see so many new and existing Jacob members visiting our stand to say hello and watch the showing of the sheep on Friday. The championship was awarded to Miss L. Adams’ ewe lamb which later sold for 200gns with the reserve awarded to Mr & Mrs J

Flock Assessments- 24th/ 25th /26th September 2010
The Eastern Region Flock Assessments will be held over the weekend of 24th/25th/26th September. Flocks will be assessed on Friday afternoon, the majority on Saturday and the remainder on Sunday. I will contact you nearer the time with an exact date and time for your flock visit- once we have a list of participants and decided on a route!
Our Judges will be Stephanie Sleightholme and John Fozzard from the Northern Region. Unfortunately, the rules have been changed for the 2010 flock competitions so there MUST be a ram present which will be used on the ewes this year. If no ram is present, the flock can still be assessed but NOT enter the competition although the £15 fee still applies.
There will be two sections for the assessment with a number of classes in each. The classes will be;
1. Best Large Flock – 10 ewes or more 4. Best ram (shearling or older) in region
2. Best Small Flock – 9 ewes or less 5. Best ewe lamb in region
3. Best ram lamb in region 6. Best shearling ewe in region
There is also a new trophy (purchased with the winnings from the East of England JSS promotion stand in 2008) to be awarded to the Best Ewe in Region.
The Judges would like to see all your sheep – this is also a perfect chance to get an expert opinion and advice on y. This is also a perfect chance to get an expert opinion and advice on your flock.
